Eine Installation aus Malerei, Skulptur und Klang.

Die Ruine ist das Resultat von Geschichte, die sich wie ein Echo immer wieder überlagernd in den Raum einschreibt. Wie der Autor Louis Chude-Sokei sagt, so kann dieses Echo zwar Spuren seines Ursprungs enthalten, vergegenwärtigt sich aber immer wieder in einem neuen Kontext. Die Ruine verwandelt unbewegliche, geschlossene Monumente in einen offenen und begehbaren Zustand. Erinnerungen an die Vergangenheit verbinden sich mit Erwartungen an die Zukunft.

Das Echo der Vergangenheit und die Gegenwart der Besucher:innen resoniert in der reaktiven Soundinstallation “Echo einer Ruine”, deren Erkundung eine generative Komposition aus elektronischen Klängen aktiviert und damit akustische Räume öffnet, die sich stetig wandeln.  
Alexa Grande, geboren in Spanien und in Hamburg und Sevilla lebend und Mark Matthes aus Hamburg, arbeiten seit 3 Jahren zusammen an interaktiven Klanginstallationen in Verbindung mit und Skulptur und Malerei. 

Seit 2020 schafft Alexa Grande eine Verbindung zwischen ihrer Malerei und Skulpturen, die sowohl inhaltlich, als auch ästhetisch die zerbrochenen Strukturen und die Leere als Zustand des Neuanfangs aufgreifen. Ihre Stahl-Beton Skulpturen erzählen von internen Spannungen und Belastungen. Deren Farbigkeit wird auch in der Architektur genutzt, um Belastungsgrenzen darzustellen. www.alexagrande.com

Von der Malerei kommernd, haben sich die Arbeiten von Mark Matthes über Bildobjekte, Material-Collagen und Interventionen, hin zu mehrmedialen Installationen entwickelt, die auch musikalische Komposition, Datenvertonung und Sensoren, wie auch verschiedenste interdisziplinäre Kooperationen mit einbezieht. Um diese Themen zu vertiefen, studierte er 2021-2024 den Masterstudiengang “Klang & Realität” an der Robert-Schumann-Hochschule Düsseldorf.

An installation combining painting, sculpture, and sound

The ruin is the result of history, which inscribes itself into space like an echo in multiple layers. As author Louis Chude-Sokei says, this echo may contain traces of its origin, but it is constantly reimagined in a new context. The ruin transforms immovable, closed monuments into an open and accessible state. Memories of the past combine with expectations for the future.

The echoes of the past and the presence of the visitors resonate in the interactive sound installation “Echo of a Ruin,” whose exploration activates a generative composition of electronic sounds, opening up acoustic spaces that are constantly changing.

Alexa Grande, born in Spain and based in Hamburg and Sevilla, and Mark Matthes from Hamburg have been working together for three years on interactive sound installations in conjunction with sculpture and painting.
Since 2020, Alexa Grande has been creating a connection between her painting and sculptures, which both thematically and aesthetically address broken structures and the void as a state of new beginnings. Her steel-concrete sculptures tell of internal tensions and pressures. Their color spectrum is also used in architecture to represent load limits.  www.alexagrande.com

Coming from a background as a painter, the work of Mark Matthes has evolved from collages of materials and architectural interventions to installations that also incorporate musical composition, data sonification, and sensors, as well as interdisciplinary collaborations. To explore these intermedia approaches in greater depth, he completed his master’s degree in music at the IMM / Robert Schumann University of Music in Düsseldorf in 2024.
